In the next few months Gordon Brown will make one of the most important decisions of his career that will determine whether the UK pursues a high or low carbon economy.
If he gives the Kingsnorth coal-fired power station the green light, it will pave the way for a whole new generation of coal-fired power stations*.
Burning coal is the single biggest cause of climate change. Leaders of Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Greenpeace, RSPB, WWF, Christian Aid, People & Planet, the Women's Institute and Tearfund have all signed the letter below calling on the Prime Minister to say yes to the massive scaling-up of clean, green energy and no to new coal plants like Kingsnorth.
We have enough wind, wave and solar energy to switch to green energy without the lights going off.
